BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - One man was arrested and another man is still on the loose after a car chase.
According to a press release, Baxter County Sheriff's deputies were notified by the Izard County Sheriff's Office that deputies were pursuing a vehicle on Highway 5 heading toward Baxter County.
Monday afternoon, a Baxter County deputy joined the pursuit on Shield Road near Norfork.
One suspect had already left the vehicle near the Baxter and Izard County line.
The driver of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala lost deputies on Shield Road.
A short time later, Baxter County Sheriff's Lieutenant Rick Lucy found the vehicle in a field east of Shield Road.
A dog tracking team from the Arkansas Department of Correction's North Central Unit arrived at the abandoned vehicle a short time later.
The suspect was found hiding in the woods about 25 yards from the vehicle.
Danny Sturgis, 60, was taken to the Baxter County Detention Center and charged with possession of a controlled substance, fleeing, parole violation and other charges out of Izard County.
Sturgis's bond for the new charges was set at $25,000, but he is being held without bond for the parole violation.
The Baxter County Sheriff's Office, Izard County Sheriff's Office, Arkansas Game and Fish Wildlife officers, and the canine tracking team from the North Central Unit were all involved in the chase.
Authorities are still looking for the other suspect.
