JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

An Arkansas State organization doubled donations for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital this year and won a top spot in fundraising.

Up ‘Til Dawn is a collegiate organization that raises money for the hospital each year.

Last year, the group at A-State raised around $36,000, but this year they almost doubled that total.

Executive Director Dakota Galban said they set a goal of $60,000 and at first the group thought they were $10,000 short.

After a second calculation though, A-State Up ‘Til Dawn realized they did meet the goal.

“A lot of disbelief, I thought it was a joke or something but it wasn’t and so we were really excited about it,” Galban said.

The group also received signature status, which means A-State’s organization is one of the top ten fundraisers in the nation.

Galban said achieving this status is not only an honor but also benefits the group as a whole.

“We will now get additional funding from St. Jude, we will get nationally recognized and we are on the website as top ten fundraising school,” Galban said.

Signature status also allows an additional person to go to the national conference for planning.

“The more people we have to go and learn then the more information we will bring back and the more views we will have on what students want and what they think ‘Up Til Dawn’ at Arkansas State should look like,” Galban said.

A-State Up ‘Til Dawn has already started fundraising for next year.

People can donate through community sponsorships, students in the organization or directly online.
