Man sentenced for 'severely' whipping child

POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - A jury sentenced a Pocahontas man to 3 years in prison after convicting him of severely beating a child.

Late Thursday afternoon, a Randolph County jury sentenced Jeromy Allyn Geelhoed, 40, of Pocahontas to 36 months in the Arkansas Department of Correction.

The jury handed down its sentence after convicting Geelhoed of domestic battering in the second degree, according to Third Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce.

Boyce said the child victim testified that Geelhoed had "whipped him severely with a belt."

The incident was reported to the Pocahontas Police Department and the Department of Human Services, Boyce said.

Geelhoed is currently being held in the Randolph County Jail.
