Craighead County Hazard Mitigation Plan available for review

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

The Craighead County Office of Emergency Management will soon finalize their Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Once completed, they will submit the plan to the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management and Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Until then, the draft plan will be available for the public to view and comment on.

For two weeks beginning April 28, the plan can be viewed in the Craighead County Emergency Management room at 511 Union, Room 119 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Throughout the two week process, the Craighead County Office of Emergency Management will answer questions the public may have.

Hazard mitigation is conducted in the effort to reduce the loss of life and property by lessening the impact of disasters. The plan will help county government identify risks and vulnerabilities in the area associated with natural disasters.

In turn, they can develop long-term strategies for protecting people and property.

The plan is scheduled to be submitted to ADEM and FEMA for final approval on May 12.
