LAKE CITY, AR (KAIT) -

The Craighead County Sheriff's Department is investigating a death in Lake City as a homicide.

Craighead County Sheriff Marty Boyd told Region 8 News they received the call around 3:30 Friday afternoon.

Sheriff Boyd said a family member was doing a routine check on a man who lives at the end of County Road 801. That’s when sheriff’s deputies were called in to investigate.

When they arrived, they found an elderly male dead inside.

Sheriff Boyd could not elaborate on how the man died or identify him, but he did say they were investigating his death as a homicide.

Michael Qualls lives right down the road from where the homicide happened. He told Region 8 News it was a shock.

"I walked outside and seen all the vehicles all the cop cars and I didn't know what happened," Qualls said.

Qualls said County Road 801, which runs right beside Riverside High School in Lake City, is normally a very quiet road.

However, around 2:30 Friday afternoon, Qualls said he saw a red car speed off from the house.

"It wasn't anybody that was kin to him or had any business down there because I know all of his son’s vehicles and everybody's vehicles down there and it was an odd vehicle," Qualls said.

Qualls was able to provide the sheriff's department with an SD card from his game camera.

He said he hopes it can help police find the person who did this.

"Maybe they'll find whoever did this because he never did nothing to nobody," Qualls said. "He didn't deserve this. He minded his own business."

If you have any information, call the Craighead County Sheriff's Department.
