WYNNE, AR -- Another automotive parts plant is breaking ground in Region 8. Eakas Arkansas officially started construction on it's Wynne facility Thursday. The Japan based company will bring new jobs to the area.

"The automotive industry is seeing the growth in the south. They're seeing that you get a fair days work for a fair days wage," said Lt. Governor Win Rockefeller.

Eakas Arkansas will make automotive parts such as door handles and mirrors. Their primary customers are Toyota, Nissan, and Mitsubishi. The corporation has worked in conjunction with the town of Wynne over the past 15 months preparing the construction site. It's located on Wynne's southside. When it's all said and done the facility will span some 91, 000 square feet and employ about 250 people.

"These are good, vital jobs that we needed here in the area," said Bill Thomas with Cross County Economic Development.

Cross county is an area that proved its ready for economic growth in 1999 by passing a one cent sale tax for three years.

"We were able to step up to the plate with those funds. That was the vital part of us being able to land this facility," said Thomas.

The town of Wynne beat out several other communities.

"We looked at about 6 or 7 cities within about a 60 mile radius of Memphis," said Larry Castelli, Vice-President of Easkas Corp.

"This is one more step in eastern Arkansas's evolution towards an automobile plant," said Rockefeller.

The company plans to start production in early 2006 with about 75 employees.
