Region 8 Remembers Pope John Paul II

April 08, 2005 -- Posted at 9:30 p.m. CDT

JONESBORO -- At Friday's prayer ceremony at Blessed Sacrament, in Jonesboro, different reasons might have brought worshipers there.

"Just like anyone else, when someone passes on, we all need prayers," said one worshiper, Debbie Tate.

"I am a filipino, and the Philippines is like one of the only Catholic countries in Southeast Asia.  I think the Pope has been a very big part of our lives," said Regina Jocson.

They came together to honor the life of one man who was celebrated by tens of millions of people around the world.

"As Christ said, whenever we gather in his name, he is there with us.  I expect Jesus is going to be there, and that he is going to be blessing all of us. I believe through the Pope's life, God is already touching hearts," said Reverand Mark Wood.

They were all bidding one final farewell to a man who made his mark on the world.

"It was just amazing to see this man could make peace with all different cultures," said Tate.

"He's been a very big part of our lives back home, and he's really very precious to us," said Jocson.
