JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Jonesboro man arrested after police say they found him lying in the street nude reportedly said he was just “enjoying himself.”

Around 3 p.m. Thursday, Officer Maurice Kinnard responded to the area of Monroe and Church Streets regarding a report of indecent exposure.

When Kinnard arrived, he reportedly found 18-year-old Derrick Thomas lying naked on his back on the sidewalk.

Kinnard said when he told Thomas to put his clothes on, the suspect reportedly asked, “But why? I’m free.”

Again, the officer told Thomas to put his clothes on or he would be arrested.

“Thomas began to laugh and say that I don’t understand that he was enjoying himself,” Kinnard stated in the initial incident report.

At that point, Kinnard arrested Thomas and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center where he was cited for disorderly conduct and given a court date of May 9.

In an unrelated case, police arrested 24-year-old Hunter Gilbert Martin on the same charge for urinating in a parking lot.

Just before 2 a.m. Friday, Officer Zachary McQuay reported he was helping clear the parking lot at The Vault, 2801 Fair Park Blvd. when he saw Martin urinating in public.

McQuay stated in his initial incident report that Martin seemed “heavily intoxicated.”

The officer issued Martin a citation for disorderly conduct and release him on his own recognizance. Martin left the scene in a taxi cab.
