BASEBALL: Lyon comes up short against WWU in AMC Tournament

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The fourth-seeded Lyon baseball team played a hard fought game Friday afternoon at Carnes Field, eventually coming up short to No. 7 seed William Woods in the American Midwest Conference Tournament, 5-4 in 10 innings.

It was a back-and-forth battle all the way to the end with each team trading punches. Dylan Wooten hit a solo home run to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the 10th, before the Owls hit a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom half to win the game.

Wooten, Kris Kohlstedt and Joseph Sitzman all collected two hits apiece for the Scots. Wooten added a double and his solo home run, which broke a 3-3 tie, while Kohlstedt had a two-RBI double in the seventh to initially tie the game at three. Lyon starting pitcher Cole Ragsdale also pitched seven solid innings allowing just three earned runs.

Lyon ends the season with a 29-24 overall record, while William Woods is now 27-23 on the year.

GAME FLOW

The first three innings were scoreless, but Lyon got on the board first in the fourth inning when Moore scored after Keegan Floyd was the third straight victim to be hit by a pitch. William Woods then grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth, and pushed it to 3-1 in the sixth.

The Scots came back to tie the game in the seventh however. Jordan Braswell and Logan Reddick each reached base on two William Woods’ errors. Kohlstedt then hit a gapper to left-center field – bringing Braswell and Reddick around on a double. The game was tied 3-3 going to the bottom of the seventh.

Lyon escaped a couple of jams in the seventh and eighth innings from William Woods, holding keeping the game at a stalemate. The game then went into extra innings and Wooten broke the tie after hitting a solo home run to left-center field.

As it seemed the Scots had all the momentum, the Owls’ Dey delivered a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th to end the game.

WHAT’S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
Lyon’s season ends with a 29-24 overall record, as they also went 17-9 in the AMC. The Scots finished fourth in the regular season and had a season long six game winning streak, starting conference play 7-0 this season.
