Man arrested after Walmart stealing spree

Shoplifter

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Police say a Lake City man attempted to steal several items from two Jonesboro Walmart stores on Saturday.

According to the initial incident report, Max McKinney, 35, borrowed a woman's truck for his stealing spree.

At 1 p.m., McKinney picked up a pair of shoes at the Walmart on Highland and took them to the service department, where he returned them for a gift card.

When police arrived, they spotted him with a "basket full of groceries," and a suitcase with multiple items in it.

McKinney admitted to the theft, according to the incident report.

Jonesboro police arrested McKinney and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center where he was cited for shoplifting and criminal trespassing.

A few hours later, the woman who allowed McKinney to borrow her truck found it in the Walmart parking lot.

The report states that inside was "a large amount of merchandise."

Police say those items were stolen from the Walmart on Parker Road.

McKinney was cited again for theft of property.

Employees from both Walmart stores told police McKinney had previously been banned from the stores for shoplifting.

He will appear in court on Monday, May 9.
