Japhanie Gray

From the home of the Seminoles, Japhanie Gray grew up in the town of Osceola. She was first trumpet in the OHS band, Cadet Col of the OHS Air Force JROTC program, and graduated as the Salutatorian of the Osceola Class of 2011.

She attended Arkansas State University where she participated in many organizations such as National Association of Black Journalists, Spanish Honor Society Sigma Delta Pi, Program Director of the college’s radio station Red Wolf Radio, and Station Manager over ASU-TV. While in college, Gray hosted and produced two community-based programs, You, Me, and the Community which highlighted community non-profits, and Cultural Express which provided a closer look at the Hispanic culture. By graduation year, Gray had received several scholarships and awards including three awards from the NATAS Mid-Atlantic Chapter Emmy Awards for her college programs, and the A-State Distinguished Service Award for her community service. In May 2015, Gray graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Multimedia Journalism and a minor in Spanish. At the top of her class with a 4.0 GPA and Special Honors, Gray was awarded the opportunity of presenting the A-State Class of 2015 Commencement address during the graduation ceremony.

From 2012-2016, Gray also worked with the Jonesboro Radio Group as an air personality for Hot 107.5 The Party Station, Mix 106.3 The Adult Hit Music Station, and 100.5 The Eagle Rocks. She joined the KAIT family in 2013 and has worked her way up from camera operator, to associate producer, to producer, and now as a reporter.

Gray is the daughter of Leon and Stephanie Gray and has one sister named Ceone Gray. As a child of God, Gray continues to put her faith first in her life and in her journalism, giving Christ all of the glory for her accomplishments. Also as a person dedicated to serving others in her community, Gray is constantly working to find ways to reach out to others by letting their voices be heard through broadcast.
