Region 8 students win state-wide athletic award

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) - Four Poplar Bluff student athletes recently received the Missouri Good Sport award for their display of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity.

Senior high students Katie Huskey and Steven Haley along with junior high students Kiley Bess and Trenton Davis were given the awards by Athletic Director Kent Keith on Wednesday.

The coaching staff voted on the awards.

The state award is intended to recognize students that have had a positive impact on the student body through their participation in extra-curricular activities, according to Jason West, the Missouri State High School Activities Association communications director.

"We at MSHSAA firmly believe that a positive role model such as yourself can positively influence the actions of others in your school," West said. "By taking the responsible steps in displaying positive sportsmanship, you are helping to rekindle the spirit of citizenship and are serving as a positive representative of your school and community."
