JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Official charges were filed against a Newport murder suspect Wednesday.

Andwelle Ellis, 18, is charged with first-degree murder and 30 counts of a terroristic act in the shooting death of 30-year-old Vanessa Thomas back in April.

He is currently in the Jackson County Detention Center.

He will appear in court again May 13.

Ellis was arrested April 19 in Batesville.

The Batesville Police Department and the United States Marshall Service assisted in finding him.

The preliminary investigation shows that Thomas was a passenger in a car traveling in the Hout Circle area around 11:30 p.m.

Shots were fired at the vehicle and Thomas was struck several times.

The driver of the car took Thomas to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Another arrest was made in this case earlier this month.

According to Bob Clark with the U.S. Marshals, Shaqualen Houston, 18, of Newport was arrested in Orlando, Florida on May 6.

Lt. Patrick Weatherford told Region 8 News that Houston will have an extradition hearing in Florida on Thursday.
