Cities Look at Entertainment Zones with Open Containers Outside

APRIL 11, 2005 - Posted at 3:52 a.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Huckabee vetoed a bill this afternoon that would have let people carry open containers of alcohol in designated entertainment districts.  The governor said he feared it would allow young people more access to liquor.

The Legislature approved a measure that allows the zones to be established.  Now 51 votes are needed in the House and 18 in the Senate to override Huckabee's veto.

Little Rock is among the cities looking at creating an entertainment zone for its River Market District, and North Little Rock is also looking at the law.  Fayetteville, Hot Springs and Eureka Springs are also considering changes to allow the designated entertainment districts.
