JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Construction near University Loop and the Marion Berry Parkway on Arkansas State's campus could begin soon.
On Friday, the Arkansas State University System Board of Trustees will meet at ASU Mid-South in West Memphis.
The board has a lengthy agenda.
One of the largest items is an update on the University Loop Extension Project.
According to the resolution, the university plans to continue work on the Marion Berry Parkway with the extension of University Loop.
The plan is to extend University Loop from the east side of campus to the west side of campus, under the Marion Berry overpass.
Before work can begin, ASU trustees must first dedicate the rights of way.
If trustees approve the measure on Friday, the school will begin accepting construction bids on the project.
This is the third phase of the extension project. Phase 1 and 2 involved the overpass.
The Board of Trustees will also vote to renew the university's weapons policy.
The move would ban concealed handguns on all ASU campuses. Trustees must renew the weapons ban every year, as required by state law.
Other items on the trustees' agenda include degree changes and the dedication of the rugby field in honor of Curt Huckaby.
