JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Craighead County Dispatch confirmed lightning struck two businesses in Jonesboro Thursday morning.

One of the strikes happened at Pepsi Beverage Co., 1301 Aggie Road.

The other happened at Pride & Joy Learning Center, 5411 E. Nettleton Ave.

No injuries have been reported in either strike, but fire crews were called to each scene.

Lightning actually struck in an alley outside the center near the entrance.

Electricity surged through an outside camera system and an air conditioning unit knocking out power.

"We started smelling charred wires in the building so that is when we initiated the call to the fire department," center owner Angie Martin said.

Martin said one parent was walking inside the building when the lightning struck.

"She said it was like firecrackers going off towards her so she scurried back to her car. She said it was just very scary but she was okay and so was her baby," Martin said.

All of the children inside were reportedly in their "safe spots" for the thunderstorm warning.

"I am very thankful nothing was on fire. The fire department checked it out and everybody is okay but we are very thankful," Martin said.

Martin told Region 8 News she is happy everyone is safe, but it was a scary morning for all.

Residents have reported seeing lightning and heavy rain across the area during the morning hours.
