Brandon Bennett named ASP Trooper of the Year

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) - An Arkansas State Police trooper received two accolades on Thursday for his role in a chase that crossed state lines.

Trooper First Class Brandon Bennett is the Trooper of the Year for 2015, according to an ASP news release.

The seven-year veteran assigned to the Highway Patrol Division Troop C in Mississippi County was presented with the award at the Arkansas State Police Awards Luncheon along with the ASP Medal of Valor.

Bennett's awards are for his role in the arrest of two Missouri fugitives on July 1, 2015, ASP states.

The men, arrested for shooting a store clerk in Kennett, led police on a chase from Missouri to Blytheville.

They also reportedly shot at Bennett and a Mississippi County sheriff's deputy before one of the suspects crashed the vehicle and a foot chase occurred.

Bennett, according to ASP, found one of the suspects hiding in thick brush.

There was a struggle, but the trooper eventually arrested the man.
