Lake City man arrested for abusing grandmother

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A Lake City man was arrested Wednesday after threatening his neighbors and neglecting his grandmother.

According to an incident report from the Craighead County Sheriff's Office Eastern District, deputies were dispatched to the 100-block of Craighead County Road 726 in Lake City.

When deputies arrived, they spoke with the victims and the suspect, Charles Reece, 30, of Lake City.

The victims told deputies that Reese threatened to kill them, according to the report.

Reece is known to be "mentally unstable and potentially dangerous."

Reece told deputies he went next door but later claimed he didn't go next door.

The victims said Reece entered the house without knocking, started to rock back and forth before he told them he was going to kill all of them.

There were also two 10-year-olds who overheard Reece say he was going to kill them.

Deputies later spoke with Reece's grandmother next door who appeared to be in distress.

The report says that there was no air conditioning in the house and the temperature was 85 degrees inside.

A deputy asked the grandmother if she wanted an ambulance and she agreed.

Reece told deputies several times that he has power of attorney over his grandmother and that he was not going to wait on her "hand and foot."

His grandmother told deputies she could not take her medicine because Reece and a girl named Tiff would steal her money.

The case was referred to the State for abuse of the elderly.

Reece was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.
