POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - Some people in Pocahontas are considering alternate routines after getting a glimpse of the bridge construction.
Last week crews shut the Highway 67 bridge over the Black River down to one lane.
"Traffic last week was basically at a standstill at times," said Susan Redwine, an employee at Posey Patch.
Redwine said they had to allow extra time for deliveries last week with the traffic.
"We have to get to our timed deliveries whether it be a funeral home or a business so we were having to allot about an extra hour, hour and a half," Redwine said.
The old bridge over the river will eventually shut down completely for construction and all traffic will be routed to the new bridge.
Redwine said when that happens the traffic will get bad again.
She said some businesses in the area are considering closing early because of the traffic issues.
Workers even altered where they ate so they did not have to cross the bridge last week.
"A lot of us last week tried to eat on this side of the bridge because you don't have time to deal with the traffic and get back on time," Redwine said.
Redwine said their customers were patient last week, but they will work on making sure deliveries are sent out earlier whenever construction starts.
