KENNETT, MO (KFVS) - The Bernie Police Department says a 5-year-old girl who went missing on Thursday has been found safe.

Dixie Brown had been missing since 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. He said she was taken by her non-custodial father, Andrew Brown.

Bernie Police Chief Justin Allen says officials pulled over a truck on Friday evening at around 10:15 p.m. Police found Brown driving the truck, with Dixie inside as well.

Dixie was reportedly unharmed and taken back to her guardian.

Other people, including Brown's girlfriend and her children, were in the truck as well at the time it was pulled over.

According to authorities, this case didn't fit all the criteria that comes with issuing an Amber Alert.

Authorities said Dixie Brown had been entered in the missing person system, but that police were going through different avenues to find her and other agencies have been notified.

Authorities said Dixie was in a relative's custody at the time Andrew Brown allegedly took her. He said the father showed up to take the child to dinner and never returned.

A Bernie police officer said Brown faces a charge of interference with custody out of Dunklin County.

Brown is currently in custody.
