Multiple headstones knocked over

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - An 80-year-old Jonesboro woman made a heartbreaking discovery when she went to visit her grandmother's grave.

Someone had knocked the headstone over.

In fact, according to a Jonesboro police report, someone toppled several headstones at Oaklawn Cemetery, 2349 W. Matthews, sometime before Sunday afternoon.

Officer Blake Easley, who responded to the cemetery, managed to pick up the headstone and place it back on its foundation.

Just to the west of that headstone, he noticed another had been knocked off its base.

After struggling a moment to put it into place, Easley reported seeing several other headstones knocked over.

According to his report, he was "unable to determine" if the stones had been knocked over by someone working with a piece of equipment or by someone intentionally."

Easley stated he was unable to pick up the remaining headstones, due to their weight. He asked dispatch to contact the person in charge of the cemetery to pick them up.
