BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - A representative of Tenaris confirmed Wednesday it laid off five people at its Blytheville plant.
Carolina Mendoza stated in an email to Region 8 News that the salaried employees were reduced "due to the protracted market downturn."
In January, the company announced it would lay off approximately 100 employees at its welded pipe mill.
At the time, the company blamed the "continued reduction of drilling activity and the price of oil" for the cutbacks.
The declining price of oil was also the reason the company gave in 2015 when it slashed 500 jobs, including 300 in Blytheville.
