HOLCOMB, MO - Southeast Missouri State Representative Otto Bean, Jr. will undergo a scheduled splenectomy.  He is expected to be hospitalized for several days following the surgery and will have a brief period of recuperation before resuming his duties in the House of Representatives.

"My doctors are hopeful that this surgery, combined with the treatment I received last month, will correct my condition and allow me to return to my full duties as soon as possible," Bean said.  "I also want to thank my constituents for the support and prayers I've received during the past month, and let them know how much I appreciate them.  I also want to offer a very special thank you to those who participated in the recent blood drives.  I'm very fortunate to represent such fine people."

Despite his surgery and recovery period, Bean's capitol and district offices will remain staffed and open.

Bean, 67, is a Republican from Holcomb (Dunklin County), representing Dunklin, Butler and Stoddard counties.
