This date, May 20, 2016, marks the sixth anniversary of a deadly shooting involving two northeast Arkansas police officers.

West Memphis Police Officers Brandon Paudert and Bill Evans were killed during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 after stopping a white minivan occupied by 45-year-old Jerry Kane and his son, 16-year-old Joseph Kane.

The Kanes later died in a shootout with police in a West Memphis Wal-Mart parking lot.

On Friday, the West Memphis Police Department said on their Facebook page, in part:

"We strive to honor their memory every day by carrying on the work they loved. Rest in Peace Brothers, we have the watch from here."
