CORNING, AR (KAIT) -

One Region 8 city is working to make sure all kids are able to go to the swimming pool for the summer.

Pat Miller is from Corning and started the idea to raise enough money so every child can swim at the community pool free.

With the help of local church, merchants and residents, Miller raised a little over $3,700 last year for the kids.

This year she set a goal for $4,000 to make sure every kids can swim free as many days as they would like.

Miller said the community was so generous last year with their donations.

“Nobody refused us, when we asked there was no conflict of any sort, there was not discussion about it they just wrote the checks and that was great, we had such participation,” Miller said.

She hopes they are able to raise the money again this year because the pool is the main attraction for the summer.

“It is very important it gives the kids a place to meet in the summer, it gives them exercise, they are safe here and this is the one thing Corning has to offer,” Miller said.

Miller got a $1,000 grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield for the pool donations this year.

Anyone in the community willing to donate can send a check to the mayor’s office.
