OSCEOLA, AR (KAIT) - Osceola honored an officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty 49 years ago on Monday.

Region 8 News joined the ceremony where many people gathered to remember Officer Gordon McFall.

Family and friends still remember the day they got the news that McFall was shot during a several-hours-long standoff.

While the American flag was lowered to half-staff, family, friends, and city officials along with current and former officers gathered to honor McFall.

His Family said the pain never goes away, even after all these years.

They said it means the world to them that the community has not forgotten about his heroic sacrifice, but they say it would mean even more to Officer McFall.

"Especially since people are starting to recognize this, he would take that hat off and say thank you," McFall's daughter Diane McCarn said.

The city hopes to continue to honor McFall on this day for many more years to come.
