JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Memorial Day event honors a fallen soldier while also raising money for veterans.
The third annual Specialist Steven Tyler Redmon Memorial Roping event is Monday, May 30, 2016.
It begins at 10 a.m. at the Arkansas State University Equine Center in Jonesboro.
Spc. Steven Tyler Redmon was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after returning from his service in Afghanistan.
Redmon's mother said his death was a result of those PTSD symptoms mixed with a fast car leading to a car accident.
He suffered a traumatic brain injury.
His mother said this event is their way of giving back to others who may be suffering after service while also remembering their loved one.
Piggott State Bank is providing trophy buckles for all the winners.
All of the proceeds raised at the roping event are donated to the Arkansas State University Beck PRIDE Center.
According to a spokesperson for the Beck PRIDE Center, funds are used to offer veterans counseling, rehabilitation, and other services.
For more information on the event, contact Darrin Moore at 870-598-4995 or Jason Stroup at 573-450-4464.
