JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Just in time for the upcoming elections, two Region 8 counties will receive new voting systems.
Over the next few months, the Arkansas Secretary of State's office will equip several counties with new voting equipment, according to a news release from Mark Martin.
The equipment will include new voting machines, tabulating machines, and software.
Jackson and Randolph Counties are among those counties selected to receive the equipment.
"We believe voters will prefer the new system once they have used it," Martin said. "This new technology will be more efficient for both voters and poll workers by streamlining the process and reducing wait times."
Martin says they should receive the new voting system and have it operational by September.
Existing funds in the Secretary of State's Office budget will pay for the new voting systems.
