JPD: woman cut man, endangered children

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro woman was arrested Monday after cutting a man with a box cutter in the mall parking lot.

According to a Jonesboro Police Department incident report, an officer responded to a physical disturbance in the parking lot of the Mall at Turtle Creek around 6:40 p.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, a man said the argument started at Allen Park between him and another man.

It was about the other man talking to one of the victim's children.

The man took his children and left the park, going to a relative's house.

According to the report, the man, two other men, and two women began following the family in two separate cars after they left that relative's house.

The victim said he made several turns, but the two vehicles kept following him.

He then pulled into the mall parking lot to get away from the other cars.

Instead, the cars pulled in behind him and all five people got out and came toward him.

The victim said he went to hit one of the men because they were closing in on him.

As he did, he was cut by 21-year-old Ebony Smith with a box cutter or razor style knife.

As the suspects heard police sirens approaching, they left the parking lot, but not before making threats to the adults and children who were with the victim, according to the report.

An officer was able to find the two women.

They were positively identified by the victim.

Smith was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.

She is charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.
