MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - There will soon be more Mississippi County Sheriff's Office deputies and jailers.
Sheriff Dale Cook was authorized by the Mississippi County Quorum Court Tuesday night to hire six new employees.
The court unanimously passed an ordinance allowing for the appropriation of $170,000 to fund the hire of two new jailers, two patrol deputies, and two courthouse security deputies.
This comes after several weeks of discussion about what some judges consider to be holes in courthouse and courtroom security.
Cook said he was unable to fully cover the courtrooms with his current staff.
The sheriff's budget had seven positions that were frozen during budget cuts in 2014.
Tuesday's vote unfroze and funded six of those.
