JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A woman arrested for trying to breastfeed her baby after testing positive for drugs told police she was "an adult" and could do whatever she wants.

Larena Marie Jones, 31, of Jonesboro is charged with felony first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.

St. Bernards medical staff called police Wednesday afternoon after Jones brought her one-year-old son to the emergency department.

According to the initial incident report, Jones had failed a drug screening and tested positive for marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine.

The hospital staff also called the Department of Human Services.

While waiting for DHS representatives to arrive, Officer Scott West spoke with Jones.

During the conversation, he said the baby began to cry as if it were hungry and Jones attempted to breastfeed the child multiple times.

When the DHS agents confronted Jones about the drugs in her system, she reportedly said she was “an adult and do whatever she wants to do.”

According to West, Jones admitted to the DHS workers she does do drugs and is an adult.

“Jones then tried to breastfeed [the baby] again, and the DHS employees asked her to stop,” West reported.

“DHS then performed their duties, and once DHS was done with Jones, I placed Jones into custody,” he stated.

West ran Jones's information through dispatch and learned she was wanted on multiple warrants.

He took her to the Craighead County Detention Center to await a probable cause hearing.

She is being held in lieu of $6,641.28 cash bond.
