After 6 Weeks, Drew Co. Man Learns Of His Dog's Horrible Death

April 13, 2005 -- Posted at 11:00 P.M. CDT

Monticello, AR -- "A person who can steal a dog, shoot him, cook him, and eat him......I'm not sure he couldn't do that to a kid," said Don Pace.

Don Pace's Akita, Bear, had been missing for nearly six weeks.

He found out what happened to his dog on Monday, but he never imagined something this horrible.

"He pulled back and wouldn't load up so he shot him.  He took him to the other guys house, they skinned him and they ate him, or he ate him," said Pace.

26 year-old Robert Wilkerson, of Conway, has been charged with theft of property and animal cruelty for allegedly destroying the dog.

"At this time, we have information that he acted by himself in the destruction of the animal. Any cruelty to animals or placing them in a position they might be injured directly won't be tolerated around here," said Drew County Sheriff, Mark Gober.
