JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A truck driver helped reunite a dog left in Jonesboro with its owner in Kansas.
A man was traveling through Jonesboro with his dog when he got in a bad car wreck.
The driver went to the hospital for his injuries so Jonesboro Animal Control took the dog until the owner was released from the hospital.
The driver was in the hospital for a whole week due to surgery.
"We went ahead and hung on to the dog and explained to the family when he gets out they can come by and get her, the dog is safe," Senior Animal Control Officer Glen McGinnis said.
When the driver was finally released, animal control was closed for the day and the family could not wait because they had to get back to Kansas.
Animal control started working on ways to get the dog back to her owner.
"We sometimes post things on Facebook so I did and it worked. I got a lot of people wanting to volunteer and trying to find hookups along the way," McGinnis said.
McGinnis said although there were several volunteers wanting to help, no one was going straight to Topeka, Kansas.
Finally, McGinnis got a call from Jonathan Gonzales who was willing to help.
"I got a phone call right when I was searching Pilot for Paws and he said I work for MC Express trucking company and I am going to Topeka, Kansas and I can take the dog for you. So we were all excited," McGinnis said.
McGinnis said MC Express was happy one of their truckers could help.
"His company was glad he volunteered to do it and it went good from there," McGinnis said.
Gonzales said the dog slept the whole way to Kansas.
"The owner was so happy and she was jumping everywhere, they were excited to be reunited," McGinnis said.
McGinnis said she was happy the two were able to reunite with the help of a wonderful volunteer.
