SHARP COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Region 8 residents took to the roads Friday to kick off the unofficial start to summer.
Despite the chance of rain, many headed toward area lakes and rivers via Highway 63.
Unlike last summer, multiple stretches of the highway are under construction.
In some spots, the shoulder of the road is temporarily gone so crews can construct a passing lane.
James Munger owns Charlie's Place along Highway 63. He told Region 8 News that he sees traffic pick up this time of year.
He asks motorists to slow down, pay attention, and make the road a safe place for construction workers and other drivers.
"All it takes is two steps back and boom," Munger said. "They're busy doing their job so they are trusting you."
Most of that construction will be going on throughout the rest of the summer. In some cases, construction isn't expected to be complete until 2017.
