JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro Elks Lodge members gathered out by the pool with their families to celebrate Memorial Day.

Many of the members are veterans.

President of the lodge Jeremy Frakes said they kicked off their day at the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery to pay their respect to the fallen heroes.

"We go out to the Garden of Honor to pay our respect to the fallen soldiers of our nation by placing flags around their grave sites," Frakes said.

Throughout the day and into the evening members enjoyed a crawfish feast and a horseshoe tournament while the children splashed in the pool.

Frakes said the celebration would not have been possible without the sacrifice the fallen men and women in uniform made.

"Without our soldiers out there on the front lines, defending our freedom every day, we wouldn't even be able to be sitting here today having such an event like this," Frakes said.

The lodge does many things to pay respect to veterans throughout the year.

However, Monday was all about remembering the ones who laid down their life.
