MAYFLOWER (AGFC) – The Super Retriever Series was held at the 4th annual Peppers Pond Club Event at Camp Robinson Special Use Area, June 3-5.
Originally part of ESPN’s Great Outdoor Games formed in 2000, the Super Retriever Series pits some of the best sporting dogs and trainers in the country in timed trials using terrain similar to that found in the wetlands where retrievers are used.
Larry McMurry, event chairman, said he expects slightly more than 70 dogs, representing at least 50 trainers and kennels competed during the three-day event.
In addition to cash and prizes, the top three contestants in professional and amateur divisions are invited to compete in the Super Retriever Series Crown Championship in Huntsville, Alabama, Oct. 27-30.
McMurry said the event not only gives trainers a chance to compete and show off their dogs, but it’s also going to benefit all the public with additional improvements to the Pepper’s Pond facility.
“We’ve been given permission by the AGFC to improve another 8 to 9 acres on the property to create even more retriever trial area,” said McMurry. “Proceeds from this event will help raise the money needed to make that happen.”
Viewing the competition is open to the public, and it will be streamed online at http://superretrieverseries.com. The event is being put on by the Pin Oak Retriever Club. Anyone interested in learning more about the club or competition can visit https://www.facebook.com/pinoak.hrc.
This year’s event sponsors include Crain Automotive Team, Ambush Boats, Avery Dog Products, Mud River, Riggs Caterpillar and Lyle Real Estate.
