If AT&T calls offering a $40 credit, Sheriff J.R. Smith says do not give them your personal information.

The Cross County sheriff says someone is calling people, pretending to be with the phone company, offering a credit for recent outages.

Smith says this is a scam.

After receiving one woman’s account information, Smith said the callers hacked her account, added unauthorized users, changed her address, and even tried to order several phones billing them to the account.

The sheriff urges residents not to give out any account or billing information.
