POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) - When three masked people forced their way into her home, a Poplar Bluff mom grabbed her gun and fought back.
The shootout happened Saturday in the 400-block of Harper Street.
The victim told police she was at home when she heard a knock on the door.
When her boyfriend opened the door, he was confronted by three masked suspects armed with handguns, according to a news release from Captain J.R. Keirsey of the Poplar Bluff Police Department.
The man fought with the suspects and subsequently knocked to the floor.
One of the suspects then approached the woman, demanding her money.
The victim said she walked back to her bedroom and retrieved her handgun.
She then opened fire on the suspect.
The unidentified man ran into the kitchen while the two other suspects ran from the home.
"The suspect in the kitchen then fired multiple rounds" toward the woman and her three children—ages 9, 7, and 5—who were hiding in the bedroom, Keirsey said.
After firing one round at the boyfriend who was still on the floor, the suspect then ran from the home.
No one was injured in the shooting.
The victim told police she knew one of the suspects, but only by his nickname.
Anyone with information that can help investigators should call the Poplar Bluff Police Department.
