WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) -

Williams Baptist College announced Monday it will sell the Ridge Center in Walnut Ridge.

An investment group will take over the shopping center and Tractor Supply Company will move into part of the retail space.

The college acquired the Ridge Center six years ago.   Proceeds from the sale will help fund a residence hall on the WBC campus which Williams President, Dr. Tom Jones said will be a "major step forward for the college."

"Williams Baptist College is proud to be a part of anything that is good for our community", said Jones in a news release from WBC.

The new business will create 15 to 20 new jobs.

Tractor Supply Co. will be located in the old Walmart building.

“The announcement that Tractor Supply Co. will be remodeling a portion of the Ridge Center in Walnut Ridge will provide a huge boost to our local economy,” said Walnut Ridge Mayor Charles Snapp. "Jobs will be created and a new tax base will be established. That tax base will provide support for all the residents of Lawrence County.”

Construction is expected to begin later this month.
