LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department has seen a recent surge in the number of complaints about scam calls.
The scams seem to be targeting the elderly, according to the sheriff's office.
They usually state the person receiving the call owes the IRS money or that they have won the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes.
The callers are asking for personal information or for the resident to send them large sums of money.
The sheriff's office wants to remind citizens to be aware of these scams and not give personal information to callers.
