JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - UPDATE Aug. 10: Crews at Craighead Forest Park installed new workout equipment along the trailhead on Wednesday.
The City of Jonesboro posted some new pictures on their Facebook page of that equipment being installed.
When the three-mile trailhead is finished, there will be 48 different pieces of workout equipment on it.
Phase one of the Craighead Forest Park Trailhead is almost complete.
The first part of the three-mile trail is on track to be done by the end of July, according to Parks and Recreation Director Wixson Hufstetler.
Crews are working on the decking and the handrail work for the bridge between Access 4 and 5 this week.
The final strip of blacktop from the bridge to Access 2 will be done next.
Hufstetler said once phase one is complete the second phase will start soon after.
Region 8 news caught up with a runner who uses the current trail three or four times a week.
Tiffany Bullard said she is excited about the new trail.
She said she enjoys running in Craighead Forest Park but the current trail can be a safety hazard.
"It is a big concern of cars and traffic coming through just constantly being aware of the cars and getting out of the way in time, so I am really excited about the new trail that I won't have to worry about that," Bullard said.
Bullard said she thinks the new trail will bring even more runners to the park.
