PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Wednesday morning, it appeared there were two District Court Judge Dan Stidhams in Greene County.

The difference? One was holding court while the other was trying to scam people.

The actual Judge Stidham said it appeared the scammers created a Facebook page with his name and picture.

The only difference was that the scammers used Stidham's last name twice.

Judge Stidham explained the scammers then messaged his mutual friends to see if they'd heard about a "federal grant" to assist flooding victims.

"They just start basically harvesting your friends, people who you're familiar with or who are familiar with you and trust you. Then they take that, turn it around and use it to take advantage of people," Judge Stidham said.

The scammers then told people that they were on a federal list to receive help from recent flooding. However, they said they needed personal information before they could get them the grant money.

"Of course this is sad even more so because it's victims of flooding being victimized," Judge Stidham said.

Judge Stidham said they were able to get Facebook to delete the page quickly, and he doesn't know of anyone who fell for the scam.

However, if you did fall for it, Judge Stidham asks you to contact police so they can try and find the people responsible.
