PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State Police is investigating an incident where a person was reportedly fighting with a trooper during an arrest.

ASP Public Information Officer Bill Sadler told Region 8 News an officer with Troop C approached several people in the 2900-block of Friendship Road in Paragould around 9:45 a.m. Thursday.

The trooper was taking someone into custody when a second person "began to struggle" with the officer, according to Sadler.

Several witnesses told Region 8 News the suspect took off on foot across Highway 49.

Workers at Laubach Freight Agency Inc. said they saw the suspect run into a ditch behind the business.

Another witness on Hillview Dr. said police caught up with the suspect in her neighbor's backyard.

"The police jumped out and started running across his yard and they jumped over the fence," Gretta Lloyd said. "I heard one of them holler I got him, I got him and by that time more police cars had some and I watched. They handcuffed him and then they picked him up and put him back over the fence and walked him to the police car."

Lloyd told Region 8 News the suspect was hiding behind some trees in her neighbor's yard.

She said Hillview Dr. is normally a very quiet street so seeing the arrest was shocking.

No injuries were reported.
