JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

It’s that time of year again… the sun is out and the temperatures are heating up.

With this upcoming weekend looking to be the hottest of the year so far, it is important to keep some tips in mind before heading out in the heat.

Region 8 News spoke with a couple of girls at the park who shared their favorite summer activities.

Gracie said she liked to, “Skip rocks, swim and walk” and Tawny said, “I like to swim, especially at the lakes.”

Whether you're swimming in the lake, exercising outside or playing at the park, it is important to find shade throughout the day and keep water close by.

Staying hydrated and cool can help to prevent heat exhaustion and other heat related illnesses during the summer months.

Escaping to an air-conditioned car or room is also a great idea when fighting the heat.
