JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Police arrested an Arkansas State University football player on drug charges.
The University Police Department stopped 22-year-old DeKeathan Lamond Williams of Jonesboro because he did not have any registration.
According to the affidavit, after the officer handed Williams the citation and he put it in a backpack.
When Williams opened the bag, Sergeant Andrew Thrasher reportedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana.
Thrasher searched the pack and found a bag of marijuana and a scale inside.
The officer took Williams into custody Wednesday and charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia and drugs.
During a further search of the backpack, Thrasher found a white powdery substance on the scale.
He tested the scale for cocaine, and it came back positive.
Online jail records show Williams was released from the Craighead County Detention Center Thursday on a $3,500 bond following a probable cause hearing.
According to the university's athletic website, Williams is a redshirt senior running back originally from West Helena.
