FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Junior outfielder Clark Eagan became the second Arkansas player drafted Friday afternoon when he was selected in the ninth round, No. 285 overall, by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2016 MLB First Year Player Draft.

Eagan follows Zach Jackson as the second Razorback drafted to the Major Leagues this afternoon. Jackson was taken in the third round earlier in the day by the Toronto Blue Jays as the 102nd pick overall.

With the selection, Arkansas has had multiple players drafted each year dating back to 1993.

From Appleton, Wisconsin, Eagan was the Razorbacks’ most utilized player in 2016. He played three different positions and was the only player on the team to play in, and start, all 55 games. He batted .298, good for third on the team, with 37 runs scored, 67 hits, 7 home runs and 37 RBIs. His hits, home runs and RBI total were all personal season-highs.

Eagan has been nothing short of consistent during his three-year Arkansas career. He has batted .280 or higher in each of his three seasons and has totaled 60 or more hits and 30 or more RBIs in each of the last two seasons.

As a recreation and sport management major, Eagan has also been one of the Razorbacks’ best in the classroom as he was named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team after compiling a 3.70 GPA going into the spring semester. His selection to the academic team was the first for a Razorback since 2010.

Rounds 3-10 continue for the MLB Draft on Friday afternoon on MLB.com. Saturday marks the final day of the draft, and it will begin at noon and will include rounds 11-40. All the selections can be followed on MLB.com.

The signing deadline for underclassmen and high school seniors selected in the 2016 First Year Player draft is July 15.
