JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The USDA released a model for a “healthy plate” which shows the proper portions for all food groups.

Health educator at St. Beneards Karan Summitt said she likes the new model because it divides your plate into quarters.

“What is does is really helps us see proper portions,” Summitt said. “If helps us see that we need more fruits and vegetables in our diet which is something that we’re really not used to getting.”

The new model says a fourth of your plate should be protein, another forth a starch and the rest are fruits and vegetables.

Arkansas ranks number one in the nation for obesity according to Summitt.
