Woman arrested after punching Jonesboro nurse

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro police arrested a Helena woman after she punched a nurse several times at a Jonesboro hospital.  

According to the incident report, NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital cared for 31-year-old Mary Payton in the emergency room following a car crash. 

Nurses told police that Payton acted “unruly."

A doctor told Payton she would be admitted to the St. Bernards Behavioral Health Unit.

That is when the woman got loud and used “obscene” language with several nurses.

Payton told police she did not take her medicine and did not want to.

A nurse tried giving Payton her medicine. That is when she punched the nurse in his face several times.

Police arrested the woman and took her to the Craighead County Detention Center.

Payton faces a second-degree battery charge.
