Man arrested after wandering hotel parking lot with weapon

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Officers arrested a man Monday after he was spotted wandering the Deluxe Inn parking lot with a gun.

Jonesboro police responded to a call at 11:32 p.m. about a man who was seen walking outside of the hotel and then into room 104 with a gun.

When officers arrived on the scene, they went to the room and talked to the man, later identified as 29-year-old Bryan Ellis.

During a pat down, officers found two 9 mm cartridges in Ellis's front pocket, according to the Jonesboro Police Department incident report.

Ellis claimed he found the cartridges at a friend's house.

Officers then asked him if he had any guns and he only said that he had just been dropped off by some friends.

When officers asked for Ellis's name, he said it was Nathaniel Ellis and that he was 22 years old.

After being taken into custody, Ellis gave officers his real name and said he had a parole warrant.

An officer then searched the vacant hotel room, which Ellis claimed was not his.

During the search, an officer found a 9 mm handgun loaded with the same type of cartridges found in Ellis's pocket.

Ellis claimed the gun, which was found in a fridge, was not his.

Officers then found out Ellis had an active warrant for his arrest for parole absconding.

Ellis was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of a probable cause hearing for possession of a firearm by certain persons and obstruction of governmental operations.
