HARRISBURG, AR (KAIT) -

Gavin Grubbs, somewhat of a local celebrity, now has a restaurant named after him in Harrisburg.

Region 8 News first introduced Gavin in 2011 when the Make-a-Wish Organization granted his wish.

He got to meet Joey Logano, his favorite race car driver.

Now, 5 years later, his family helped make another dream of Gavin’s come true.

“When he was itty bitty, he always wanted a restaurant,” Gavin’s mother Mindy Grubbs said.

Tuesday, Gavin called out orders to the chef at Gavin’s Downtown, the restaurant that sits on Main Street in his hometown of Harrisburg.

The joyful teen has a form of muscular dystrophy, but that does not slow him down.

Mindy and Gavin's uncle Hunter Zirbel said the building set vacant for a year and that is when they found potential in making their little boy's dream come true.

“We love the community of Harrisburg and saw a need here and well, it seemed like a logical fit,” Mindy said.

The family started planning in January and recently opened the restaurant.

Mindy said, with a smile on her face, that the restaurant brings purpose to her son’s life.

Since opening, she has seen many of Gavin’s talents unfold.

“We found right away that he has a talent for carrying dirty dishes to the back because he can really stack a tray of dirty dishes on his wheelchair,” Mindy said. “This past weekend we found he had a flare for waiting tables, and we think that's going to be one of his favorite things to do.”

Gavin took Region 8 News on a tour and in one designated area several pieces of Joey Logano memorabilia hang on the wall.

“It’s my favorite room,” Gavin said. "It’s special to me because we use it like a party room. I like to have fun, that’s just who I am.”

His mother said having fun is the reason behind this whole plan.

“All of it boils down to that he gets that interaction with people,” Mindy said. “That’s what he really loves.”

“My mom is a very driven person and we couldn't have done this without her,” Gavin said.

Gavin’s uncle Hunter is the chef at the restaurant. According to Gavin,  he makes everything there operate smoothly.

“I just want to thank all the people who work here and all the customers because they are the reason why we can do this,” Gavin said.

The new restaurant serves sandwiches, salads, burgers and much more.

They even have wine and beer on the menu.
